SKINCARE & WORKING OUT- STEPS TO GREAT SKIN AND A GREAT BODY!

Skincare and Working Out

Working out is a great way of taking care of your body and your mind. Whether you’ve signed up for a group class to strengthen your core, practice yoga on your yoga mat at home or you use TRX bands to keep fit whilst traveling, it is easy to forget that getting hot and sweaty whilst exercising might not be so great for your skin. Sweat can result in clogged pores, breakouts and irritated skin. Follow our tips below on how to take better care of your skin when working out and show the world that post-workout glow!

Cleanse your skin before and after exercising

It’s very important to keep your skin as clean as possible when you exercise in order to minimise the risk of clogged pores. Cleansing your skin right before and after you exercise helps to get rid of any oils, sweat, dirt, dead skin cells and bacteria that have built up on your skin throughout the day. This will help keep your complexion looking clear and bright whilst also helping you feel more refreshed post-exercise! Our Rice Flower Polish, made from a unique blend of Salicylic Acid and Rice Bran is an amazing exfoliant that will help remove dull sluggish skin after you work out, leaving you with a brighter complexion.

Wear little to no makeup when exercising

Whilst it might be tempting to wear a full face of makeup to the gym, the combination of makeup and sweat can cause excess oil to build up on the skin, creating the ideal environment for acne. When you exercise, the pores on your skin naturally open up to allow your skin to breathe and release sweat. However, wearing makeup congests your skin by clogging the pores and leading to breakouts, blackheads and skin irritation. Apart from this, your makeup won’t last long on your skin anyway so it’s a good idea to avoid wearing any makeup to your local gym class!

Do wear SPF when working out

Exercising outside on a sunny day is a great way to improve your mood and boost your motivation. However, it’s important to take into consideration the effects that the sun will have on your skin when doing so. Wearing a sunscreen which offers an SPF of at least 30 or 50 on both your face and body is essential for protecting your skin from sun damage, and there are many SPF creams that are tailored for your face and won’t feel sticky. We like SuperGoop’s Everyday Sunscreen. If you find that your skin gets quite dry from exercising outside, apply our Aqua Gel Masque 1-3 times a week to keep your skin feeling hydrated and supple.

Drink lots of water!

We all know how important it is to drink plenty of water when you exercise. This gives you more energy while exercising, as well as helping to keep you cool and avoid dehydration. However, keeping yourself hydrated also shows up on your skin and helps you to achieve that gorgeous post-workout glow we all crave! Detox water is a great way of keeping hydrated on-the-go whilst helping to flush out toxins and improve your metabolism. We love this lemon, mint and cucumber detox water recipe for hydrating, cleansing the body and aiding digestion too.

Exercise is great for improving the function of your body and mind. By following the simple skincare tips above, you can ensure that your skin also stays healthy, glowing and beautiful!
